New garbage collection schedule takes effect

The two companies are yet to be paid by the cash-strapped Mayor and City Council (M&CC).According to the new schedule, on Mondays, collection will be done in Bel Air Springs, Bel Air Gardens, Subryanville, Kitty, Campbellville Housing Scheme, Alberttown, Lamaha Springs, and Lamaha Park.Tuesdays will see solid waste collection in areas such as Werk-en-Rust, Stabroek, Charlestown, Albouystown, Wortmanville, Belvoir Court, Prashad Nagar, NewThe situation which existed over the weekend in the cityHaven, Bel Air Village, Blygezigt, North Sophia, Liliendaal, Turkeyen, Atlantic Ville, Pattensen, Cummings Lodge and Queenstown.There will be a similar process on Wednesdays for Lodge, Lodge Housing Scheme, Thorne’s Drive, Century Palm, Meadow Brook, Tucville Terrace, Guyhoc Park, East La Penitence, North Cummingsburg, West Ruimveldt, East Ruimveldt, Middle Road, Independence Boulevard, Castello Housing Scheme and North East La Penitence.Collection will take shape on Thursdays in South Ruimveldt, Roxanne Burnham Gardens, Shirley Field Ridley Square, Guyhoc Gardens, Alexander Village, River View, Ruimveldt, Laing Avenue, Meadow Bank, Rahaman’s Park, Houston, Mc Doom, Agricola, Evan Phillips Park, South Cummingsburg, Bel Air Park, Newtown, J to K Campbellville, A to D Campbellville, E to I Campbellville and Lamaha Gardens.Meanwhile on Fridays, Festival City, North Ruimveldt, Stevedore Postal Housing Scheme, South Ruimveldt Park, Jacksonville, and Kingstown will be relieved of their solid waste.Guyana Times understands that commercial areas will be covered throughout these five days as well.Meanwhile, the Solid Waste Director, Walter Narine took to social media, assuringGarbage being picked up in Kitty, Georgetown on Mondaycitizens that collection will resume as per normal and empathising with the two solid waste collectors during the impasse.After Cevons Waste Management and Puran Brothers Disposal Services withdrew their operations, there was a public outcry from residents, whose waste was not collected for many days, causing a garbage build-up in the capital city.Businesses were also faced with the same issue and affected on a large scale, since their waste production is herculean.
